Unlike a boat or submarine, the only “heat sink” available to a road vehicle or airplane is the atmosphere, air being the only fluid available to which it can reject waste heat. Air is a poor heat transfer fluid, however, which makes the rejection of the massive amounts of heat rejected by the engine and exhaust a notorious source of issues.

THE COOLING AIR CIRCUIT produces comprehensive understanding of the airside of engine cooling systems; the thermo-physical properties of air, basic fluid dynamics, basic aerodynamic characteristics of ground vehicles, system resistance to flow, effect of distribution of the cooling air velocity and temperature due to obstructions in the grille and heat exchanger package; fan systems and drives; shrouds; heat exchanger modules, etc.  It discusses the functional interactions between these components for their effect on heat rejection efficiency and cooling system performance.

The book is designed to impart fundamental understanding of the air  side to practicing OEM cooling system design & development engineers, cooling system and radiator shop service technicians, and for personal reference and self-improvement.

An engineering background helps but is NOT necessary.  The book is easy to read, fully illustrated with graphs, illustrations and photographs to bring understanding to the technically inclined without engineering formulas or mathematics.
